At Gales Solicitors we work with parents and guardians in cases involving Social Services, (sometimes called Children’s Services) and children – either where there is involvement with Social Services regarding the care of children or where proceedings have been issued in respect of a child or children for care orders, generally known as “care proceedings”.
Proceedings can be started by the Local Authority where it believes there is concern regarding parenting or the behaviour of a child. This may be where the Local Authority believes the child has suffered significant harm or is likely to suffer significant harm if an order is not made to protect him or her.
Although the most obvious allegations of abuse relate to physical or sexual abuse, action may also be taken where Social Services believe there is emotional harm or neglect.
Facing an investigation or court action from social services is a terrifying situation for any parent. It is vital that proper advice is taken as soon as possible. Proper advice and legal assistance improves the chance of keeping your children at home with the family.
We at Gales, recognise that this area of the law is extremely specialised. We can offer experienced, expert and sensible advice from a member of our team. Barbara Champion, the head of our care team is accredited with the Law Society as a Member of the Law Society’s Children Panel.
